With the UK clamping down on emissions, ‘Battery Energy Storage Systems’ are now recommended in London, for diesel generators to achieve Stage V compliance. This hybrid-model is proven to reduce emissions and improve running efficiency – reducing generator size by around 40%, and diesel consumed by as much as 91%.
Adding a BESS to a diesel generator also enables end users to reduce NOX and CO2 pollution, as well as providing the option to operate in silent-mode at night – particularly relevant in built-up residential areas.
With such strong statistics and indisputable benefits, Power Saving Solutions secured investment and were ready to capitalise on the enormous market opportunity.
Early iterations of Power Saving Solutions’ BESS, the ‘Hussh Pod’, were based on a monocoque structured frame. But customers were demanding greater flexibility – they wanted to specify solutions to suit specific scenarios, and they wanted the ability to repair damage without having to replace the entire unit. Power Saving Solutions had developed a strong ethos to modulate everything, and now wanted a modular enclosure to match.
The rental market can be brutal for site equipment – from equipment being bashed around as its manoeuvred on site, to being used in the harshest of weather conditions. The vast majority of Power Saving Solutions’ Hussh Pods are part of rental fleets, making weather resistance, reliability and aesthetics important considerations.

Engineers from both Amcanu and Power Saving Solutions worked together, as one team, to define the brief – an opportunity to create the ideal product, from the ground up. With battery technology advancing so quickly, particular attention was paid to making the final product modular, scaleable and future-proof. The team also capitalised on the opportunity to create a standardised product with standardised processes – simplifying everything from commissioning to customer-specific configuration.
The final BESS enclosure design is easier to build, easier to configure and far easier to repair. Incorporating standard 5U racking and designed to remain compatible with future battery and inverter technologies. The Power Saving Solutions Hussh Pod can now be configured to accommodate batteries for 10kwh to 120kwh in the same enclosure.
With more than 100 new enclosures out in the real world, customer feedback has been resoundingly positive. Power Saving Solutions and Amcanu are now working together to scale up BESS unit production and update other products in the range.
