We strongly believe in recognising and nurturing fresh engineering talent. Our commitment to excellence is not just a boilerplate statement, it’s embedded in our culture and throughout every aspect of our operations. Recently, we had the honour of celebrating the achievements of one of our own – Rhys Williams, an apprentice with a passion for mechanical engineering.

Rhys was shortlisted for the Rising Star Award at the prestigious MAKE UK Manufacturing Awards – testament to his enthusiasm and dedication. While he didn’t bring home the trophy, it was great to spend the evening in such good company and a fantastic achievement for Rhys to be shortlisted amongst such strong finalists.

Journey of Dedication & Learning

Rhys is currently pursuing a Mechanical Engineering Level 3 NVQ at Coleg Sir Gar & HNC. He joined Amcanu with a thirst for knowledge and a genuine interest in the intricacies of our manufacturing processes. His journey has been marked by dedication, a strong work ethic, and a keen ability to grasp complex technical principles.

“I’m really impressed with Rhys. He has such a positive can-do attitude and learns so fast. Having been the apprentice, I appreciate the amount of work involved in learning and completing all the coursework, but Rhys has big plans and just takes everything in his stride. He’s a real asset to the Amcanu team.”

Going Above & Beyond

What sets Rhys apart is not just his ability to excel in his apprenticeship but also his proactive approach to learning and development. From the outset, he demonstrated a keen interest in acquiring new knowledge and practical skills – approaching us independently to explore opportunities. His journey highlights the importance of good initiative – a quality we value a lot at Amcanu.

Teamwork & Leadership

Rhys’s impact goes beyond individual accomplishments. During a colleague’s absence, he stepped up to the challenge, even as an apprentice, training and mentoring another team member who transitioned from the powder-coating plant to laser cutting. His ability to seamlessly share knowledge underscores the teamwork and collaborative spirit that defines Amcanu.

Looking to the Future

As Rhys progresses through his apprenticeship, his ambition is to delve into technical design, showcasing a passion for the creative aspects of engineering. We all hope he’ll continue to grow within Amcanu, contributing to the overall success and growth of our company.

“It was disappointing to not win, but I felt really proud to be representing Amcanu. It feels like I’m making good progress in my career and it felt great to get a few pats on the back. The food was amazing – it was worth it just for that!”
