Every enclosure we manufacture comes to life in the same way – with welding and fabrication of the highest standard.
Our fabrication team is currently made up of five time-served and coded welders and one very capable robot.
Led by our longest-standing employee, Paul, our welding and fabrication department has always been the backbone of Amcanu. From the very early days of being a local welding shop, to the advanced manufacturing facility we are today… it all started with a simple welding torch!
The work coming out of the fabrication department underpins everything that follows. Strength, alignment, fit and durability are all established at this stage.
Decisions made here affect how our enclosures perform in the field – whether it’s being dragged around on a skid, operating in the harshest of environments, or forming part of a rental fleet.
Weld quality is controlled and verified against recognised standards, with inspection and non-destructive testing processes in place to ensure consistency across every build.
This discipline and attention-to-detail allows us to deliver the same level of quality – whether it’s a one-off or a full production run.
Paul, our most seasoned welder and one of our homegrown legends, is now in his 50th year with Amcanu.
Paul started as the company’s very first apprentice and has been a part of the business ever since – helping shape the department, the standards, and the team.
Over the years, Paul has played an essential role in maintaining the level of quality we expect on every build. Just as importantly, he’s helped develop the next generation of fabricators – passing on experience, wisdom, techniques and expectations to new members of the team.
Paul’s seen the company grow from its earliest days into what it is today. We’re exceptionally fortunate to have benefited from his influence for so long.
Alongside experience, we continue to invest in how we manufacture – most recently introducing a cobot welder into the department. And, already it’s making a significant impact.
For repetitive tasks and larger production runs, the cobot welder delivers high-quality welds with speed and consistency – improving throughput and reliability across batches.
Our cobot welder is freeing-up time, for our skilled welders to focus on the work that requires judgement, experience and craftsmanship.
Josh, who also started his journey as one of our apprentices, is a great example of how the team continues to evolve.
An excellent welder in his own right, he has taken responsibility for operating the cobot system – moving from purely hands-on fabrication into programming and control – a very different skill set, and a shift that wouldn’t come naturally to everyone. Josh has taken it in his stride and is helping us take an enormous step forward in modernising and automating much of our manufacturing.
This combination of traditional skill and modern capability reflects the direction of the department – and of Amcanu as a whole.
From one-off fabrications to full production runs, the expectation remains unchanged.
The same people, the same standards, the same attention-to-detail.
Everything is built here in Burry Port, South Wales – with a team that understands exactly how our enclosures need to perform once they leave our factory.
If you’d like to see our factory or the quality of our welding and fabrication for yourself… call or email and we’ll arrange a factory tour. We’ll be excited, and proud, to show you what we do… in lots of detail!
